What actually are silk threads?

Silk is a fine fiber obtained from the cocoons of the silkworm. It is the only continuous fiber that occurs in nature and consists mainly of proteins.

Silk is used in many ways. The best-known products are probably textiles. For many years, their proteins have been used in medicine for suturing wounds, as wound adhesives and for tissue regeneration, and for some time also in skin care.
